Dear all,

These days I’m mostly chained to my desk writing confidential investment memos for late-stage ventures. And so there’s not much to share, except maybe for the books I’m reading when I give myself a little pause. Here are the ones I’ve been going through recently:

  • VC: An American History, by Harvard’s Tom Nicholas, is a book that, frankly, should have been written long ago. It documents the history of venture capital from the New England whaling industry to Silicon Valley. I’ll share more about it in the coming weeks, but it came highly recommended by authorities such as my friends Bill Janeway and Ian Hathaway.

  • All the Pieces Matter: The Inside Story of The Wire, by Jonathan Abrams, is the insider’s account of how the wonderful TV series that is The Wire came to be. My wife Laetitia and I watched all five seasons many years ago and to this day it ranks high on the list of our favorite TV series of all time. I look forward to learning more with this book.
